A tracheostomy is a surgical procedure to create an opening through the neck into the trachea (windpipe). A tube is most often placed through this opening to provide an airway and to remove secretions from the lungs. This tube is called a tracheostomy tube or trachy tube.
Some children with upper airway obstruction or some othe indications may have had a tracheostomy tube inserted to keep open their breathing passage - either for a short time or on a longer term basis. While this tube is inside, it will require regular care.
LLA offers you that option of routine tracheostomy care.
In tracheostomy care, we ensure that the stoma is clean and infection free.
At LLA we train you on how to change your tube at home.
At LLA we teach you how to avoid other complications of tracheostomy tube while at home.
